Mike (“Stinger”) Glenn, Author, TV Commentator, Professional Basketball Player and Willie (“Birdman”) Brown, Artist and Basketball Player Molded by his parents and the students at Georgia School For The Deaf, Mike is an excellent role model. He excelled in academics (public school honor student…12 years of perfect attendance…3.9 GPA…3-time NCAA Academic All American) and in sports (most valuable high school basketball player in Georgia... best jump shot in college basketball…played on 4 NBA teams.) He founded the first basketball camp for deaf kids, was a TV sports commentator for 14 years, hosted a show on CNN, and has a renowned collection of books by African-Americans. Profoundly deaf, Willie was an awkward underachiever at Georgia School for the Deaf until he read a sports magazine article about Mike and engineered a meeting. As Mike’ s hard-working protégé, he learned to master academics and sports. He became the first deaf player on two Division 1 college basketball teams and set basketball records while majoring in art. He was captain of three deaf Olympic teams that won gold medals. Willie is now one of the first two deaf referees in Georgia high school basketball.Mike and Willie’s presentations range from basketball tricks and drills to sign language, art, and history as they encourage academic and personal excellence. Willie signs, mimes and draws. Mike signs, interprets, and tells stories about basketball players, famous advocates of freedom, and people who overcame adversity. Mike’s nonfiction books: Lessons From My Library: Vols. 1 & 2 ($7.95 each)
