Carmen Agra Deedy, Author and Storyteller    At age six, Carmen fled
with her family from Cuba to Decatur, GA.  She and her sister entertained themselves
by telling and acting out stories as they learned a new language and culture.  As a
young mother and PTA volunteer, reading and “hamming up” stories at school evolved
into Carmen’s career as a storyteller, author, and
playwright.  Performance sites include The White House, Library of Congress, Lincoln
Center,
and countless schools and festivals plus National Public Radio. Her first play, The
Library Dragon, premiered in 2004.Carmen’s presentation encourages reading and
writing through her dynamic telling of original, folk, and classical tales in English or
Spanish.  She inspires her listeners because she is living proof that stories are
wonderful and tough problems can be solved.
